A Bit About Us

Thornton Rose provides riding opportunities for people of all ages and disabilities to enjoy a safe, stimulating, therapeutic and recreational sport. The group was established as Thornton Rose in 2004 when we relocated to Thornton Farm, Rosewell.

We are a member of the Riding for the Disabled Association, where our vision is to improve the lives of people with disabilities through activities connected with horses.

Our team of volunteers works hard towards a common goal: To provide disabled people with the means to ride and work around horses that provides them with the most benefit. Whether that is regional dressage competitions or spending quality time in our barn with their favorite pony.

Therapy through horses

Since the Covid-19 pandemic, Thornton Rose RDA has also offered non-ridden sessions focusing on mental health, providing respite and combating social isolation through horses. Please visit our ‘Contact Us’ page for more information on applying for our sessions.

It can take between £15,000 and £25,000 a year to run our charity, so please consider donating through our JustGiving link below.

We are always looking for volunteers to help out. You don’t have to work with horses as there are lots of other jobs to do..

Unfortunately, like most RDA groups throughout the UK, we do have a waiting list for participants
